Tom was our guide here. He provided us and introduction to the Maya and its math and calendar systems. He shared with us our own birth dates in the Maya tradition.
Brenda was our guide here. She took us for an hour long boat trip down the New River. Lot’s of birds and a crocodile or two. We saw the Jabiru Stork here. First standing on its nest, but on the return trip we saw it flying overhead. And of course, the howler monkey boys feeding on the Philodendron.
Mauricio was our guide. He walked us out to the undeveloped Maya site. We saw a number of new birds, particularly wood peckers and the leaftosser. We saw the underground storage or hiding places scattered about the plaza. We even saw a jaguar track and got to taste palm seed. Later we returned down the jungle road to the resort where we enjoyed lunch with a number of birds
Carlos was our guide from Sweet Songs. On our way we stopped to see Jorge, the stone carver and watch the temple appear out of the morning fog. We visited the site by first crossing on the hand cranked ferry. The temples here have elaborately carved murals.
